With 800 square meters of indoor exhibition space, Folkart Gallery is Turkey’s largest art gallery, and continues to make culture and art accessible to all through its contemporary and international exhibitions.

On January 31, 2015, Folkart Gallery opened its doors to art lovers with a collection shown for the first time in Turkey, named “The Magic of Hands” by Prof. Dr. Hans Zilch. In this renowned collection, the works of legendary artists such as Pablo Picasso, Auguste Rodin, Salvador Dali, Eugène Delacroix, Le Corbusier, Man Ray, Joseph Beuys and Georg Baselitz were exhibited.

The gallery also hosted a noteworthy exhibition on the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Çanakkale, or the Battle of Gallipoli), an event that left a mark on an era and was an integral part of one of the world’s bloodiest wars. The exhibition, named “Bir Hürriyet Türküsü,” was comprised of 100 unpublished photographs from the epic conflict that featured the triumphs of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the Turkish Army, as well as historical artifacts from the Gallipoli peninsula. It was displayed at the Folkart Gallery on March 18, 2015.

In October 2015, art lovers were welcomed to the “Workers” collection of Sebastiao Salgado, one of the world’s greatest documentary photographers.

An uncommon display of 400 unique African masks was exhibited in Folkart Gallery on December 17, 2015. This unusual group was from veteran author and journalist Hıfzı Topuz, who has been collecting them since 1961 from their countries of origin and from French auctions. The art space has made a lasting impression around Turkey and gained its national renown within a short period of time.

The legendary war photographer Robert Capa's (1913–1954) first retrospective in Turkey, “The White Sound of Blood,” was exhibited at Folkart Gallery on March 3, 2016. Capa shot to fame with photographs taken during the Spanish Civil War in 1938, and this 97-photograph exhibition of his drew great interest from the people of İzmir. The total number of visitors to these five Folkart exhibitions reached 75,000.

The veteran man of letters and journalist Doğan Hızlan is the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Folkart Gallery. And leading Turkish artists Hüsamettin Koçan, Habib Aydoğdu, Hanefi Yeter, Kemal Tufan and Çerkes Karadağ sit on the Advisory Board.
